Celestial Persuasion by Mirta Ines Trupp
Mirta Ines Trupp has written a historical novel that is considered a prequel to Jane Austen's book Persuasion.
In Celestial Persuasion, Abigail is constantly at odds that she was born a female and is limited by her gender. She is skilled in many ways, thanks to her older brother, Jonathon, who she misses terribly while he is away at war. He taught her many skills unavailable to most women, such as math and a love for astronomy. She spends her time now with Mrs Frankel running their household, looking at the stars, and wondering where life will take her. Is she destined to be a spinster?
When Abigail receives a letter, everything changes in her life as her heart breaks. She must make difficult decisions and is thankful that Mrs. Frankel is always her trusted guide, like a family member.
Abigail and Mrs Frankel set out on a journey to fulfill what her father and Jonathon wanted her to do. Along the way, she meets many new people who are also traveling. She is again frustrated by the limits of her gender and one person, in particular, is the most infuriating. Mr Gabay seems to limit her in every possible way.
Can Abigail be free to pursue her dreams? Will she every recover from her dear brother's death and learn the truth of how he died?
